City

Located along the beautiful Apulian Adriatic coast, Monopoli is a city that enchants with its perfect mix of history, crystal clear sea and Mediterranean authenticity. With a historic center rich in white stone alleys, baroque churches and old houses, Monopoli is an increasingly popular destination for those who want to visit it, both for those who dream of living there.

Among the must-see places stands out the Castle of Charles V, overlooking the sea, built in the sixteenth century to defend the city from incursions. The old town, with its cobbled streets and lime houses, tells centuries of history and tradition. The Cathedral of Maria Santissima della Madia, symbol of the city, impresses with its majesty and charm of the legend that accompanies it.

What to eat in Monopoli

At Monopoli you eat well, with a simple cuisine full of authentic flavors. The dishes are linked to the Apulian tradition and use local, fresh and genuine products.

The fresh fish is the protagonist: every day at the port arrives the catch of the day, such as octopus, mussels, sea urchins, cuttlefish and blue fish. You can taste it raw, fried or grilled, always with few ingredients but so much taste.

Among the typical first courses there are the orecchiette with turnip tops, seasoned with oil, garlic and anchovies. A dish symbol of Puglia, simple but delicious.

For a quick snack, there is no shortage of fried panzerotti filled with mozzarella and tomato, and the Pugliese focacce with cherry tomatoes and olives.

Finally, try the burrata and other local cheeses such as caciocavallo, ideal to taste with a little homemade bread and a dash of olive oil.
